Movie #6: Journey to the Seventh Planet

Welcome to Sci-Fi 100!
100 Sci-Fi movies in 100 days!
Last night's film was "Journey to the Seventh Planet" from 1962. It's a USA film directed by Danish director Sid Pink who brought us "Reptilicus" and "The Angry Red Planet." It stars John Agar, Carl Ottosen,  & Peter Monch.
What a great "bad" film! I really enjoyed this one. It was about a group of astronauts that are sent to explore the planet Uranus. They find out that the planet is controlled by a giant, one-eyed brain that wants to go to Earth and conquer it. The giant brain has telepathic powers and can read the astronauts minds and create things from their memories to fool them (kind of like the martians on Ray Bradbury's "Martian Chronicles.")

Check out the trailer in the box above.

One thing I really liked about this film was how practical the sets and costumes were. They looked very believable for that decade.

The Special Effects were pretty cool too... featuring a stop-motion one-eyed dinosaur type of alien, a giant spider, and of course, the giant one-eyed brain.

The look and feel of the film reminded me of  "The Twilight Zone." It also reminded me of some of the TV shows that Irwin Allen produced ("The Time Tunnel," "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.")
I think it's worth taking a look at if you are a fan of classic sic-fi. It's available on DVD and also can be watched instantly on Netflix.

Broadcasting from a location far away from Uranus!
